Observations
in Student - Teacher Relationships
![]()
Dear Magnussa family,
a couple of days ago one of our young Grandmasters and I talked on Yahoo IM
about a topic that I believe many of you also experienced and would like to
exchange ideas and views about. It is about the relationship between a
Reiki student and her/his Reiki teacher that many students / beginners and
also some less experienced teachers mistake.
It seems that many students feel as if they fall in love with their teachers,
and the teacher - if s/he has a void in personal loving relationships - responds
to the feelings of the student. This can go up to
extremes, like starting a sexual relationship with the student if it is an
in-person tuition. We all know that this is not an ethical thing to do
unless real love and a permanent relationship is involved, the student already
graduated and is in no way dependent on the teacher for tuition, attunements,
etc.
Now, how do we explain this phenomenon?
A real and spiritual Reiki Master has normally achieved a high vibratory level
and is radiating Reiki energies and unconditional love. The student who
comes to her/him is normally of lower vibratory level and is spiritually "hungry"
after this sort of love energies. That is why s/he gets attracted to the
teacher. And especially if they are of opposite gender this sort of
attraction can easily be mistaken for interpersonal love. A stimulation of
the kundalini energies can also result in intense sexual desire in the student.
A teacher, who is not much experienced yet, who does not know how to set
boundries and how to de-attach him/herself after the teaching interaction with
the student, easily falls into this trap.
S/He feels the affection from the love-hungry student and responds to it in the
same way, especially if the teacher is lonely and longing for a partner who
really loves her/him.
I do not mean to say that all this encounters are just the result of difference
in vibratory levels. Often soulmates and twinsouls are meant to meet each
other on the spiritual path and will genuinely fall in love, marry and continue
their spiritual development together, as God/Spirit and they themselves chose
and planned before incarnation.
But in most cases this student/teacher encounters are just temporary and should
be carefully dealt with. It is the responsibility of the teacher to
respect the student's weakness/vulnerability and tell her/him what is going on,
to set boundries and help the student to ground her/himself.
Before I understood this dynamics, I fell into that trap myself a few times,
mistaking the affection of most of my male distant teaching students as love.
And I took their marriage-proposals serious as I was single myself and looking
for someone compatible, and for real love. (Now this void in me is filled.
I have found my twinsoul although it still takes some time till we can get
together because of his personal committments and geographic distance, but he is
definitely worthed the waiting :-)))
The interesting thing was, that the less the men believed in God, the more
intense and desperate was their longing after the love I as Reiki Master
radiated.
Maybe this topic is an interesting subject to discuss about, and I am looking
forward to your comments, input and experiences that you maybe want to share.
With love and MPRUE blessings,
Elisabeth
